Artwork specifications

One print-ready PDF per title, prepared to the specification below. The uploader checks the geometry and page count on upload; the remaining items are verified by KHL prepress.

File

• PDF, preferably PDF/X-1a or PDF/X-4. Not password protected.
• Text block as a single file in reading order, one page per PDF page. No spreads, no imposition.
• Cover supplied as a separate PDF, as a single spread (back, spine, front) or as two pages.
• Maximum file size 250 MB per upload.

Page geometry

• Page size equals the trim size of the title plus 3 mm bleed on every edge. For a 260 x 190 mm title, supply 266 x 196 mm pages.
• Bleed on all four edges, on every page, including blank pages.
• Keep live text and important elements at least 5 mm inside the trim.
• Page count must match the title specification exactly. Perfect binding requires an even count; a multiple of four is preferred.

Images and colour

• Placed images at 300 dpi or higher at final size. Line art at 1200 dpi.
• Text pages for 1C titles supplied as greyscale or black only. Rich blacks in text are not accepted.
• Covers in CMYK. No spot colours unless agreed with KHL.
• Fonts embedded or converted to outlines.

Naming

Name the file with the ISBN and the edition or year, for example 9789814832793_2026_text.pdf and 9789814832793_2026_cover.pdf. The uploader keeps the original filename on the job order.
